Things to see and do

With so much to see and do its hard where to start your Florida vacation.  Obviously just ten minutes from the villa you can experience Florida's wonderful golden sandy Gulf beaches.  There are an array of beaches and locations to suit everyone's taste from remote island retreats to activity beaches.  Englewood beach is the closest to the villa which is situated on Manasota Key, a 7 mile long barrier island stretching up as far as Venice. For a secluded native walk try Stump Pass found down the left hand side of Englewood Beach.  Port Charlotte beach has a beach club with pool, basketball, tennis and snack bar.  For a totally peaceful day try Don Pedro Island State Park the beach is only accessible by boat.  There are rest room, shower and BBQ facilities there for your convenience.  Unusual shells and sharks teeth are can usually be found here.  For some more island adventures;

  • Gasparilla Island - South of Boca Grande, this beautiful island has various beaches to explore including the famous lighthouse which is now a museum and well worth a visit.  Wild dolphins sometimes can be spotted from here.
  • Sanibel Island - A wonderful island off Fort Myers with excellent beaches and restaurants.
  • Captiva Island - A bit further on from Sanibel but truly worth a visit.  White sandy beaches, fantastic sunsets and where once, it was said that pirates roamed.

Diving is also a past time in Florida.  Scuba diving and snorkeling are both available from Englewood beach area.  Florida is the USA's diving capital with ocean, reef and spring diving, with all year round availability.

Apart from the obvious theme parks try the Everglades for an airboat ride, Naples and the old fashion trolley tour, Fort Myers and the Edison & Ford Museum or Key West for a long weekend.

Great restaurants and choices are endless.  Fantastic fish restaurants overlooking the bay to local fabulous steaks with wicked frozen margaritas, plus all your well known chains.

Shopping is well catered for too.  There is a large mall in Port Charlotte as well as quaint bouquets in Fisherman's Village in Punta Gorda.  Outlets can be found in Fort Myers and Naples.  Local supermarkets include Wal-Mart, Wynn Dixie and Publix.

The above is just a glimpse of  what you could do.  The villa has many  leaflets to help you find out more or please contact for more information.
